Market Abuse Regulation. Commentary and Annotated Guide
Oxford University Press
£155
This book analyses the European market abuse regime contained in the Market Abuse Regulation (MAR) and related directives and regulations. Written by leading scholars in the field of capital market law from a number of European jurisdictions, the book is divided into two main parts. The first consists of chapters considering relevant issues by topic; whilst the second provides the first article-by-article commentary on the Regulation, with a detailed and technical analysis of its terms. In the first part guidance is arranged by topic and includes aspects not directly addressed by MAR such as enforcement, and the impact of US securities regulation. As well as considering the sources of market abuse regulation in general, this first part also examines its theoretical and economic framework in order to provide better understanding of the Regulation itself. Marco Ventoruzzo is Director of Bocconi’s Department of Legal Studies. The book also contains essays by two other Bocconi scholars: Chiara Mosca and Chiara Picciau.

Innovation and the Evolution of Industries. History Friendly Models
Cambridge University Press
£21.99
The disruptive impacts of technological innovation on established industrial structures has been one of the distinguishing features of modern capitalism. In this book, four leading figures in the field of Schumpeterian and evolutionary economic theory draw on decades of research to offer a new, 'history-friendly' perspective on the process of creative destruction. This 'history-friendly' methodology models the complex dynamics of innovation, competition and industrial evolution in a way that combines analytical rigour with an acknowledgement of the chaotic nature of history. The book presents a comprehensive analysis of the determinants and patterns of industrial evolution, and investigates its complex dynamics within three key industries: computers, semiconductors, and pharmaceuticals. It will be of great value to scholars and students of innovation and industrial change, from backgrounds as varied as history, economics and management. Its coverage of new methodological tools is also useful for students who are new to evolutionary economic theory. Franco Malerba is Full Professor of Applied Economics at Bocconi and president of Bocconi’s ICRIOS research center.

Humour at the Workplace
Rupa Publications
Rupees 295
One of the most popular Indian publishers, Rupa, asked Marco Sampietro, a Professor of Project management both at SDA Bocconi School of management and at MISB, Bocconi’s Mumbai business school, to adapt his PhD dissertation on humor in the workplace for a large audience. The result, in the publishers’ words is a “book that takes American President Dwight Eisenhower’s comment – ‘a sense of humor is part of the art of leadership’ – very seriously – but, of course, with a light touch, scintillating humor and some solid resaerch!”. The book considers how workplace humor can accelerate efficiency and productivity – be it by managing stress, solving management problems, negotiating conflicts or motivating staff.

Manuela Geranio
Evolution of the Exchange Industry
Springer
$69.99
This book describes the dramatic changes that have occurred in the exchange industry during the past two decades. The strategies adopted by major world exchanges during this period are explained and the roles of multilateral trading systems and over-the-counter (OTC) players are clearly described, highlighting their economics and their interconnections with traditional exchanges. Up-to-date, comprehensive comparisons are made of the performances of the main exchanges, and important governance issues are considered. In addition, threats and opportunities for major types of trading venue, deriving either from new regulatory approaches or from the surge in new markets, are presented and discussed with a view to forecasting future developments in the secondary market industry. The background to the book is the strong erosion in traditional profit drivers for exchanges produced by the progress in communications and trading technology. In many countries, regulation has reduced barriers to entry in the equity field, facilitating a surge in new players and a shift of liquidity toward alternative trading platforms and dark pools. Manuela Geranio is a Researcher in Financial Markets and Intermediaries at Bocconi University.
